INTRO to Concrete Lifting and Stabilizing Slabjacking / Mudjacking

Sunken concrete can be more than an inconvenience. If left unrepaired, it can be costly in terms of production, safety or further damage and liability.

Slabjacking is a cost-effective alternative to removing and replacing problem concrete.

Homeowners with sunken driveways, steps, sidewalks, porches, and garage pads are taking advantage of this affordable and practical solution to save time and money.

If your concrete is sinking, there is a very good possibility that the concrete slab was installed on poorly compacted fill dirt. Sub-surface erosion and shrinking soils are also possibilities.

If you are fortunate enough to have a slabjacker in your area, you should not have to replace the concrete. Active Concrete Lifting Inc. can float a slab back to its original position by pumping a mixture of sand, cement, fly ash, and other additives beneath your slab.

We simply drill strategically placed holes into the slab. Using a portable pump and flexible hoses, fill these holes with the special mixture. Lifting a slab using this method can often be accomplished in a few hours.

Often the cost to perform this service is less than half that of replacing a new slab.

What Is Slabjacking?

Mudjacking, also referred to as concrete raising, concrete lifting, and slabjacking, is actually more straightforward than you might think. Active Concrete Lifting Inc. Vancouver, BC will come to your home, drill a hole in the concrete slab that is causing you trouble, and then inject a mixture of pond sand and concrete (commonly referred to as “grout”) beneath the slab in order to raise it up. The grout fills the void beneath the slab that is causing it to sink, then pressurizes and hydraulically lifts the slab up to its original position.

The process takes a few hours to complete, and your concrete slab should be ready for regular use again within a day after the work is finished. It is a very cost effective, and efficient way to fix sunken sidewalks, driveways, patios, basement floors, and even foundation walls. If you’re experiencing sunken concrete slabs on your property, mudjacking is a quick and easy way to get things back to their original state.

How does slabjacking works?

Slabjacking involves pumping slurry beneath the concrete through small holes drilled in the cement. It seeps into voids and crevices, depressing and stabilizing the existing subsoil while raising the cement. While all companies use this format, the actual mix, holes drilled and pouring methodology vary. Once the job has been assessed, small holes approximately 1 1/4-inches in diameter are drilled at predetermined locations. A portable pump forces the slurry through the holes to raise and level the cement.

ADVANTAGES

Slabjacking has many advantages over new, the most important of which are:

  • COST
Slabjacking usually costs less than half the cost of new concrete and sometimes far less.
  • TIME
Many times the jacked concrete can be driven or walked on the same day we lifting it. Whereas new concrete involves the demolition and removal of the concrete, pouring new concrete, and cure time of the fresh concrete. This process can take up to two weeks or more.
  • APPEARANCE
New concrete is invariably a different color than the remaining concrete. A large patched section will be conspicuous to the eye. Slabjacking uses only
a few small holes that blend in more inconspicuously.
  • CONVENIENCE
One of the advantages we are complimented on the most is the convenience of our process. There is no heavy equipment on the lawns or landscaping, and the noise is at a minimum.
